Sad day

Shopping at Aldi this morning, enough just to let me order fresh fruit and veg from Morrison. Sunny day so DB spread the feed and weed we got, it rained late in the afternoon, so it got washed in. I had a message from Beryl's son Andy, his mother passed peacefully away during the night. We are devastated, we had been friends with Beryl and Pete from the time we moved in to Coal Lane. We looked for them both until Pete passed away and then stepped up to keep an eye on Beryl. It is about 3 years ago since she moved into the care home. We continued to visit as often as we could, she loved to hear the news from the village and a lot of laughs were shared. I could see over the past 12 months that she was deteriorating and since Christmas has has a problem with her legs, I was concerned that she had not seen a Doctor and contacted her son. He dealt with her affairs. Last time we saw her a couple of weeks ago, it was obvious that she was a bit confused at times. We had only said on Wednes

Trip out

It was quite a dull morning. We had decided to go and collect the scissors etc we put in for sharpening last week. Thanks to the sat nav we made it there and back in just over an hour. DB announced he had the dizziness, so retired to bed for a couple of hours. It's been a sunny afternoon, but still very windy. I sat for an hour sorting out a design to sew, will post a picture if it turns out ok. Supper, smoked haddock with poached egg and bread and butter.

The repair man cometh

When we moved in we found several things that needed attention, Monday morning the repair chap arrived, cased the jobs and started work. All completed including undoing the kitchen blind that had stuck. Good job done. White loadof laundry done, had to put it in the dryer, we had rain, sleet, thunder, lightening, wind and sun, that was just in the morning. It was a much cooler morning. I spent the morning going through our finances, we have a couple of savings accounts which are coming to the end of their term. I have been looking at tying the money up for at least 12 if not 24 months. No sewing done, I need to start laying out a project I want to do. Need to transfer the designs to a USB and then sort out how to arrange them, in the hoop before stitching it out. Chicken for last night's supper will get carved for chicken salad.

Sunny Sunday

DB has been spending time in the garden, there is a lot to do, we have a gardener stating on Wednesday, hopefully he will start in the front.  I did put in some shrubs in the front border yesterday, will have to see how they go. There are quite a few primulas in the back which I am hoping to lift. Like DB I can only do half an hour at a time. Veggis for supper prepped, roast chicken and veg, no dessert. Its fine and sunnty but the wind is keeping the temperature down a bit. I have not done any sewing since A was here on Thursday, I have the fabric for the half curtain in the kitchen, that is my next job. I have dried two lots of laundry on the airer in the porch. Yesterday I went to fold it down and caught my finger in the clip, blood everywhere.......its a bit sore this morning. No plans for this afternoon, might just sit and read, we did have morning tea sitting on the bench in the garden. The sun is moving round, so it will be rather warm if the wind drops. Workman coming tomorrow t

A new start.

I have decided on the change of title to my blog. Melton Mowbray is renown for its pork pies, made by a local bakery in the town. We have one other pie maker locally, Brocklesby. There is a annual pie competition held in the town each year, in St Marys Church. Stilton and Red Leicester cheese are also made locally, and there is a fresh food market on Tuesday, which is also the day farmers come to the cattle market, which I believe is the only one left in the East Midlands. There is also a smaller market on Saturday. Long Clawson is a well known cheese maker, there are a few smaller cheese makers around in the villages. The title  Melton Pork Pie is protected as is Stilton cheese, both can only use those names if they are made in a designated area Melton has a long history, well know in the 20's and 30's for hunting. We have 4 local hunts who drag hunt now. There are also quite a few houses known as Hunting Lodges around the town, one is famous as being where Mrs Simpson met E
